Longtime Public Safety Leaders Endorse Derek Dooley for U.S. Senate
Atlanta, GA – Today, political outsider and Republican candidate for United States Senate Derek Dooley announced the endorsement of respected law enforcement officials and former Commissioners of the Georgia Department of Public Safety – Colonel Gary Vowell and Colonel Chris Wright.

About Colonel Gary Vowell
Colonel Gary Vowell is a Georgia native and lifelong law enforcement official who has spent a career dedicated to public service. Prior to serving as Tift County Sheriff for 15 years and being voted unanimously to serve as the Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Safety, Vowell was a longtime Georgia State Trooper. Colonel Vowell started his career with the Georgia State Patrol in Americus, graduated as a member of the 51st Trooper School and was assigned to Post 13 in Tifton, served as a Field Training Officer where he was awarded for drug interdiction by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, worked as a certified Peace officer Standards and Training instructor for alcohol and drug awareness, and was appointed by Governor Nathan Deal to sit on the Board of Public Safety. Colonel Vowell is a longtime member of the National Sheriff’s Association and the Georgia Sheriff’s Association.
About Colonel Chris Wright
Colonel Chris Wright was unanimously voted by the Board of Public Safety to serve as Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Safety. Prior to his appointment, he was Deputy Commissioner and Director of Field Operations for the department. Colonel Wright began his career with the Georgia State Patrol in Valdosta, graduated as a member of the 69th Trooper School, moved up the ranks and was appointed as Troop Commander, and later served as the South Adjutant of Georgia State Patrol Troops F, G, H, and I. He has earned numerous awards and certificates for his service, including the selection as officer of the year by the Peace Officers Association of Georgia and subsequent honor by the Safety Fire Commission, Georgia House, and Georgia Senate. In 2012, Colonel Wright graduated from the FBI National Academy, Session #251.
